Zoom Video Communications updates

Zoom Video will soon offer full encryption for all versions of its video meeting app, preventing the conversations from being intercepted by hackers.

The technology company said earlier this month that it only wants to fully protect the paid version of the meeting program. That led to sharp criticism from privacy activists and US Congressmen.

Encryption encrypts information and intermediate communication between two users of an app. Previously, Zoom only partially shielded communications across its platforms, from the user to the company's servers.

Zoom, which became very popular due to lockdown measures in a short time, previously announced that it would fully encrypt conversations. CEO Eric Yuan made the side note that this would not apply to his free versions, which most people use. According to Zoom, the FBI and other law enforcement officials, among others, could draw on unencrypted information to identify people who have abused the service.
